Income Maximisation Updates – October 2024

17th October 2024

Important information and updates from our Income Maximisation team.

Benefit health assessment update

Universal Credit and ESA claimants now have the right to audio record the discussions at their Work Capability Assessment. They can do this by using their phone or other device, the latest DWP official guidance makes clear. The right to record has been available for PIP claimants for some time. The only stipulation is that you should inform the assessment provider in advance that you intend to audio record your assessment.

Energy price rises

Average energy (gas and electric) prices increased on 1st October by an average of 10% for standard variable tariff customers. Customers on this variable tariff may be able to save money by contacting their provider to see what other deals are available, some of which involve a fixed deal with a minimum term. Or alternatively, comparison websites can be used to check all tariffs available.

Warm Home Discount

Now is the time to check with electricity providers that you are registered for the Warm Home Discount. This is a £150 discount on electricity bills, and applications for this discount tend to start over the next few months. People who receive a means-tested benefit such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Income-based benefits are eligible for this discount.
